How It All Started

TheraPetic® Healthcare Provider Group was born out of a simple observation: too many people who genuinely needed service dog or support animal documentation couldn't find a trustworthy, affordable path to get it. The industry was full of scams, overpriced services, and companies that cared more about profit than people.

In 2016, Dr. Patrick Fisher -- a doctoral researcher, nationally certified counselor, and clinical director -- decided to do something about it. He founded TheraPetic® as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a clear mission: connect individuals with licensed clinical doctors for legitimate evaluations and documentation, while providing free education about their legal rights.

What started as a small operation has grown into a network of 11 specialized websites serving all 50 states and Canada, with over 50,000 people helped and counting.

TheraPetic® isn't just a service -- it's backed by real clinical research. Our founder, Dr. Patrick Fisher, PhD, NCC, completed his doctoral research at Walden University in 2021, specifically studying the impact of support animal intervention on anxiety disorders.

Dr. Fisher is a researcher, National Certified Counselor, and founder of TheraPetic® Healthcare Provider Group. He served as Director of Counseling Services across 95 schools before founding the network. His doctoral research on support animal therapeutic outcomes at Walden University (2021) identified six core therapeutic themes that guide TheraPetic®'s clinical process. He is also the author of The Invisible Series -- a 10-volume nonfiction series on mental health, disability, criminal justice, and data privacy.

Ryan Gaughan serves as Executive Director of TheraPetic® Healthcare Provider Group, overseeing day-to-day operations across the 11-organization network. As one of fewer than 10 active CSDT-certified trainers worldwide (International Association of Canine Professionals), Ryan brings hands-on expertise in animal behavior and service dog training to the organization's content review and compliance. He holds a BS in Psychology with a specialization in Animal Behavior.
Ryan Gaughan se desempeña como Director Ejecutivo del TheraPetic® Healthcare Provider Group.
